Guided Tour of Alberobello: Discover the Trulli UNESCO World Heritage Site
The guided tour of Alberobello begins in Aia Piccola, a charming and authentic district located in the heart of the town of the famous trulli, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Trulli are unique traditional houses built entirely of limestone using a dry-stone technique, without mortar or cement. Every year thousands of visitors come to Alberobello to explore this extraordinary historic center and discover the daily life of the rural community of the early 1900s.
Aia Piccola and the Trulli Districts
The walking tour continues through the narrow streets of the historic center, where visitors can admire the characteristic trulli and learn about their history and architectural features.
The itinerary includes the picturesque districts of Aia Piccola and Rione Monti, two of the most iconic areas of Alberobello, filled with white stone houses topped with conical roofs.
Church of Saint Anthony
During the tour you will visit the Church of Saint Anthony, a unique religious building and the only church in the world built in the shape of a trullo. The church was opened to the public in June 1927 and represents one of the most distinctive landmarks of Alberobello.
Trullo Sovrano
The tour continues with a visit to the famous Trullo Sovrano, now a museum that allows visitors to explore the interior of a traditional trullo.
Inside you can admire the typical furnishings and decorations of the early 20th century. Declared an Italian National Monument in 1923, this remarkable structure was named “Sovrano” because it once housed the Blessed Sacrament and the relics of Saint Cosmas and Saint Damian, the patron saints of the town.
Local Crafts and Traditional Shops
During the guided walk you will also visit several local craft shops, where artisans preserve traditional techniques and offer handmade products typical of the region.
The tour ends with free time for shopping and a relaxing break while enjoying the unique atmosphere of Alberobello, one of the most fascinating villages in southern Italy.
